Provence is a historical and cultural region in southeastern France, roughly bounded by the Rhone river, the Mediterranean, and the Alps. Rich in both natural beauty and cultural history, Provence is home to many important Roman archeological sites and many of the cities they built still stand today.Provence has been home to many famous artists inspired by its stunning landscapes, including Cézanne, van Gogh, Renoir, and Picasso. Provence is also known for producing rosé wine, though exceptional white wines do also come from the region. With a relatively warm and dry Mediterranean climate, Provence is a great place to spend time outdoors hiking, swimming, or enjoying a simple meal.
