Holidays to Ireland

The Republic of Ireland is a member of the European Union and the capital city is Dublin. The island is located in northwestern Europe and is the third largest island in the continent after Britain and Iceland and the twentieth in the world. The official languages are Gaelic and English. Although English is the most widely spoken language, Gaelic is widely spoken on the West Coast in the area of Gaeltacht.

The island of Ireland is divided into 4 Regions (Provinces): Leinster to the east, Munster to the south, Connacht to the west and Ulster to the north. Administratively the island is divided into 32 counties of which 28 are in the Republic of Ireland, the other 6 make up Northern Ireland which is part of Great Britain.   The Irish are very sociable and famous for their hospitality and their lively conversations are very welcoming.  The close contact between the members of the community is one of the most characteristic features of the Irish way of life and almost everywhere you can feel that intimate atmosphere of a small province.    The social life of the community often revolves around their famous Pubs and visitors are well received in any part of the country.   The lush green scenery has led to the country to be christened the Emerald Isle and it is renowned for its folklore, including tales of leprechauns and the patron St Patrick ridding the island of snakes.
