Covadonga

Covadonga is a small but emblematic place located in the Principality of Asturias, in northern Spain. It is part of the Picos de Europa National Park and is considered one of the most important destinations due to its natural beauty as well as its historical and religious significance. Among the main attractions are the Holy Cave, where the Virgin of Covadonga is venerated, and the Basilica of Santa María la Real, an impressive neo-Romanesque temple surrounded by mountains. A curious fact about Covadonga is its connection to the beginning of the Reconquista. In the year 722, the famous battle took place where Don Pelayo, an Asturian leader, defeated the Muslim troops.
