What to see in Oman

Wahiba Sands

Tourist attractions Wahiba Sands

Named after a Bedouin tribe that inhabits the region, the Wahiba Sands is a vast area of desert where communities live as traditionally today as they have for centuries. The central focal point of the region, the Al Huyawah oasis, is an important meeting place for the communities who reside in the desert and is the perfect place to harvest dates and for meetings and celebrations.

The desert here is also famed for being an area of great biological diversity and is often visited by biologists due to the variety of wildlife seen here. Visitors should expect to be amazed by the vast sand dunes, some over one hundred meters high and by the kind hospitality of the locals. Camps are dotted around the region where you can stay the night under the stars in a traditional Bedouin tent or take a camel ride into the dunes.
