Tourist attractions Persepolis
Persepolis is the ancient capital of the old Achaemenian Dynasty, and today it is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most unmissable sights in Iran. A number of ruins in the site date back to 515 BC, making it a precious relic of the past. A number of the buildings are carved into the mountains, whilst intricately decorated doorways, featuring mythical animal and imagery stand majestically around the site. Expect to see monumental staircases, such as the Apadana staircase, lined with images of Persian nobles and an immortal army, and unbelievable bas reliefs. For the best view of the whole site, climb to the top of the mighty Tomb of Artaxerxes II where an unforgettable panorama awaits you.
