Prague
Tourist attractions Prague
Travel to Prague is to enter one of the most charming cities in Europe, and therefore, also one of the 20 most visited in the world.
Its narrow streets, its iconic Charles Bridge, which links the old city with Prague Castle, and its interesting history make this city a wonderful destination for an organized trip and soak up its culture and environment. Not in vain his historic helmet is World Heritage from 1992.
What to see on a trip to Prague
Astronomical Clock
One of the main tourist attractions of the city. An enormous clock which has been telling the time for over 600 years and is capable of marking five moments in time thanks to its sundial design.
Part of the clock tells the time in Prague, whilst another shows the time between sunrise and sunset, and there is also a zodiacal ring, showing the phases of the moon plus the animated figures of twelve apostles that accompany each hour, as well as illustrations of the months and seasons of the year.
Powder Gate
One of the 13 original gates from when Prague was a walled city. It was a coronation gift to one of the kings of Bohemia. At that time it was known as New Tower and the kings would parade beneath it.
Once they were installed, the tower was abandoned. It suffered various fires and damage, which lead to it being renovated several times. During the 17th century, it was used as a gunpowder store, gaining the name by which it is known today. Today it is one of the best viewpoints in the city; the views are impressive.
Charles Bridge
The most important bridge in the city, this was the first bridge to join Prague castle with its surroundings. For this reason, It became a communication channel between the two sides and was hugely important in encouraging business between eastern and western Europe.
The bridge is 500 metres in length and decorated with various sculptures of notable saints in Prague. The tower located on the edge of the old city is considered one of the masterpieces of Gothic architecture.
Prague Castle
The oldest castle in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records made up of a series of palaces inside which a variety of art galleries and museums can be found. The different buildings are also linked to each other by patios and alleys which you could spend the day exploring.
Several churches are also found in the complex, such as the Church of Our Lady, which was the first to be constructed. The St. Vitus Cathedral can also be found here, as can St. George's Basilica or the Convent of St Agnes of Bohemia. The towers, once upon a time, were prisons. Nowadays they tell the stories of their history.
Today, just like in the former residence of the Kings of Bohemia, you will find their collection of jewels and treasures.
St. Vitus Cathedral
The most important cathedral in Prague, located within the castle complex. This is where the Kings of Bohemia were crowned in ancient times. It is also, the place where some of the religious and royal personalities of Prague were buried.
The most impressive feature is the architecture, a jewel of the Gothic style. Some of the best views of the city can be found at the top of its tower, so it's well worth the climb.
Wenceslas Square
One of the most important places in Prague, This was the site where, in 1989, the Velvet Revolution took place and where the fall of communism occurred, for which reason many marches and demonstrations still take place here today.
The National Museum of Prague is also located in one of the corners of the square, alongside a great many restaurants, bars and shops, making this one of the liveliest areas of the city.
Karlovy Vary
Karlovy Vary is the most famous spa town in the Czech Republic...maybe all of Europe.
Famed for the quality of its water since the 15th century, the town maintains all its romantic air of the imperial era, with columned promenades that lead to the springs.
