Tourist attractions Avenue of the Volcanoes
Named in the early 1800s by famous explorer Humboldt, the Avenue of the Volcanoes is a road that winds its way between the Andean foothills dotted with volcanoes, many of which are still active. It passes through a valley rich with a landscape of dense forest and fields on steep slopes. Dotted around is a mix of deeply traditional indigenous and colonial settlements with horticultural and artisan markets and cottage industries.
