    What to see in Namibia

    Deadvlei

    Tourist attractions Deadvlei

Deadvlei is located in the heart of the Namib Desert, within the Namib-Naukluft National Park in Namibia. It is a dry lake bed that, about 700 years ago, dried up due to climate change and the nearby dunes separated it from the Tsauchab River, causing the death of the acacia trees growing inside. Desert sand accumulated at the bottom of the lake bed, creating a surreal landscape of petrified trees and reddish sand dunes.

Deadvlei is known for its spectacular color contrasts, which intensify during sunrise and sunset, when the sunlight creates deep, glowing shadows on the dunes and petrified trees. The dead acacias, which resemble tree skeletons, stand out in the landscape and create an otherworldly atmosphere.
