    Queen Elizabeth National Park

Tourist attractions Queen Elizabeth National Park

Connected to the Kibale National Park by a dense forest, Queen Elizabeth is the most visited game reserve in Uganda. Before the 1980s it was known as the Rwenzori Park, in honor of the mountain that rises behind it and it is considered to be the third largest in the continent, behind Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya.

Declared a Biosphere Reserve, it is divided in two by the Kazinga channel, which connects lakes, George and Edward. Besides being able to observe more than 500 species of birds, Queen Elizabeth is inhabited by some of the mammals most admired by safari go-ers. They are the Big Five: buffaloes, elephants, rhinoceroses, leopards and lions. Interestingly, the latter can be seen resting on the branches of trees. Other animals that are present in the park are hippos and chimpanzees.
