What to see in Mexico

San Cristóbal de las Casas

Tourist attractions San Cristóbal de las Casas

This colonial city is located within the state of Chiapas. It is known as one of the most multicultural cities in the state, making it one of the more popular visits on a trip to Mexico. Among its points of interest are the Cathedral of San Cristóbal Mártir, located in the emblematic Plaza de la Paz; the local market, one of the most typical in the country where it is common to see the locals selling their products. To immerse yourself in its local culture, it is best to visit the communities of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan, where there are several artisan workshops. San Cristóbal de las Casas is also known for amber, so in addition to visiting its museum dedicated to its production, in Miguel Hidalgo Street you can find a large number of jewellers dedicated to this precious stone. Not far from the city is the archaeological center of Palenque, one of the Mayan relics of the state of Chiapas.
