1st Day: UK/Ireland - Night on board

It's time to discover the culture, landscapes and wildlife of Sri Lanka! Arrive at your UK/Ireland departure airport ready to check-in for an overnight flight to Colombo. Night on board.

* If either your outbound or inbound flights depart in the early hours (before 4:00 a.m.) you must arrive at the airport the night before the indicated departure day.

2nd Day: Colombo - Negombo

Arrive at Colombo International Airport and transfer to Negombo, on the west coast of Sri Lanka. The rest of the day is at your leisure to enjoy your beautiful surroundings or take a relaxing stroll along the idyllic coastline. Known as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka exudes natural beauty and tropical charms. Overnight stay in Negombo.

3rd Day: Negombo - Tissamaharama

Breakfast at the hotel. Today, travel to the Southern part of Sri Lanka, home to some of the most iconic wildlife in the country. Along the route, we recommend an optional boat safari through the mangroves of the Madu River.* Arrive in Tissamaharama, check-in at the hotel and spend the evening relaxing and preparing for the exciting days ahead! Overnight stay in Tissamaharama.

Optional Mangrove Boat Safari in Madu River: Enjoy a boat safari on the Madu River (also known as Madu Ganga) and let yourself be amazed by the beautiful estuary and mangrove islets. This area makes up a coastal wet-land-eco-system that is home to diverse species of birds, animals and aquatic plants.

4th Day: Tissamaharama - Bundala National Park - Tissamaharama

Set off early in the morning to Bundala National Park for a private game drive with a packed breakfast. This one-of-a-kind location where the land, sea and wetlands meet is a popular winter site for migratory birds and home to a diverse variety of wildlife such as spotted deer, the rare pangolin and playful monkeys. Return to the hotel and enjoy some free time before visiting the Kataragama Temple and Kiri Vehera Buddhist Temple in the afternoon. Return to the hotel and overnight stay in Tissamaharama.

5th Day: Tissamaharama - Udawalawe National Park - Tissamaharama

Breakfast at the hotel. Start your day with an exciting visit to the Elephant Transit Home in Udawalawe, a halfway house that rehabilitates wounded and orphaned elephants until they are ready to be released into the wild. See the important work that goes on at the home and watch the elephants go about their daily routine. In the afternoon, discover the landscapes of Udawalawe National Park on a private safari game drive. Go in search of beautiful wild elephants and admire the amazing wildlife such as wild buffaloes, crocodiles and Sri Lankan sloth bears. Return to the hotel and overnight stay in Tissamaharama.

6th Day: Tissamaharama - Yala National Park - Tissamaharama

Set off early in the morning for a private game drive with a packed breakfast in Yala National Park, the most famous national park in Sri Lanka. Its diverse wildlife, such as majestic elephant herds, great black bears and agile leopards, ensures it is one of the best national parks in the county. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, a rainproof jacket, sunhat/sun protection and your camera to capture the beautiful wildlife! After an action-packed day of wildlife watching, return to the hotel to relax and enjoy the rest of the evening at your leisure. If you are still feeling adventurous, we suggest a further, afternoon safari at Yala National Park*.  Overnight stay in Tissamaharama.

Optional Afternoon Safari at Yala National Park: Enjoy a second safari of the day in Yala, the most iconic national park in southern Sri Lanka. Snap photos, take in the landscapes and look out for more elephants, fine-feathered peacocks and leopards, as well as colorful and unique bird species.

7th Day: Tissamaharama - Negombo

Breakfast at the hotel. Head north to Negombo, watching the idyllic coastline of Sri Lanka unfold before you. Along the journey, we recommend an optional excursion to visit the Galle Fort.* On arrival in Negombo, get settled at the hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure. Admire the views of Negombo Lagoon and explore the local area at your own pace. Overnight stay in Negombo.

* Optional visit to Galle Fort: En route to Negombo, make a stop to discover the fascinating history of the incredible Galle Fort. Considered a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument, it maintains a polished appearance even though it was constructed in the 16th-century!

8th Day: Negombo

Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy a day at your leisure in Negombo. Spend the day on the beach, lapped by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, or explore the sights of nearby Negombo town, home to a historic Dutch fort and a colorful fishing harbour. Overnight stay in Negombo. 

* Optional Half-Day Colombo City Tour: Discover the heritage of Colombo on a tour of the capital's most emblematic sights. Explore the city and see the 100-year-old clock tower, the Pettach Bazaar and Colombo's temples, mosques and churches. Admire the extravagant stately homes of the suburbs, the Independence Memorial and the Old Dutch Hospital, among other fascinating sights. 

 

9th Day: Negombo

Breakfast at the hotel. Spend another day at leisure in Negombo. Enjoy the facilities of your hotel or perhaps go sightseeing in Negombo town to see the colonial-era St. Mary's Church and discover the eye-catching murals of Angurukaramulla Temple. Why not watch the sunset from Negombo Beach and take a stroll through the old fishing village to see the local fishermen bringing in their catch of the day. We recommend an optional excursion to the incredible Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of Sri Lanka's most unmissable sights!* Overnight stay in Negombo.

* Optional Full-Day Excursion to Sigiriya Rock Fortress: Depart early in the morning and transfer to Sigiriya to climb to the top of the incredible Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a journey of 1,200 steps! At the summit of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, admire the highlights of this fortress complex including beautiful frescoes, the Water Gardens, Mirror Wall and Lion Platform, whilst soaking up the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. Please note: it can take anywhere between 1.5-3 hours to climb to the top of the fortress, depending on your physical ability.
