Delft, a small town sandwiched between Rotterdam and the Hague, became a center of high-quality ceramics as people looked for local alternatives to Chinese porcelain. It was also the de facto capital of the Netherlands for a time, as the ruling House of Orange was long based here.Delft is also a center of both arts and technology. Famous painter Johannes Vermeer lived and worked here his entire life. Today, Delft is home to the Netherlands’ most prestigious science and tech-focused university, TU Delft.
