Known during the winter for its ski slopes, this mountainous area located 50 kilometers from Ljubljana is characterized as being the largest accessible grazing area in Slovenia. Its popularity and the increase in its visitors date back to the 1960s, when the funicular was built from Kamniška Bistrica and the ski slopes began to expand. Currently, Valika Planina is one of the most popular outdoor sports spaces in the country where there is accommodation, equipment rental centers and restaurants. The area is also known for the popular trnič cheese which is only manufactured here.
