What to see in Tanzania

Zanzíbar

Tourist attractions Zanzíbar

With over 30 beaches, the island of Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous part of Tanzania. It is also known as The Spice Island, and the landscape is symbolic of a holiday paradise: white sand beaches and crystal clear waters. Its capital Stone Town was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000 as it is one of the most important centres of Swahili culture. Its principal characteristic is that it is clad with natural stone, as its name suggests. Just 35 kilometres from the capital is the Jozani Forest, home of the Red Colobus, a unique type of monkey. The deep waters of Zanzibar are another of its assets, frequented daily by dozens of divers.
