Monasterio de Sinaia

Tourist attractions Monasterio de Sinaia

The Sinaia Monastery is located in the heart of the Carpathian Mountains, in the town of Sinaia, which actually takes its name from this monastic complex. Founded in 1695 by Prince Mihail Cantacuzino after his pilgrimage to Mount Sinai, the monastery was conceived as a spiritual refuge amidst nature. Its architecture blends Byzantine and Brâncovenesc elements, characteristic of Romanian tradition, with frescoes and carvings that reflect Eastern Orthodox influence. Inside, it houses a valuable collection of ancient icons and a library filled with religious manuscripts. Interestingly, the monastery was the first building in the region to have electricity, supplied from the nearby Peleș Castle.
