6th Day: Kasane - Maun
After breakfast, pack your bags and transfer to Kasane Airport to take a flight to Maun, a town on the Thamalakane River in the North of Botswana. It's the beginning of the vast inland Okavango Delta, which becomes a lush wildlife habitat during the seasonal floods. In the delta, safari camps are dotted around the Moremi Game Reserve, which is home to hippos, lions and rhinos. The views of the delta are complemented by pilot commentary about the delta throughout. With many of the Delta’s most remote areas not reachable in any other way, an aerial perspective is the ideal way to gaze over the vast Delta and its meandering labyrinth of crystal-clear channels.
Light Aircraft flight over the Okavango Delta (45 min): Fantastic scenic flight. An outstanding perspective of the breathtaking beauty of this water wonderland and the large animals which live within the delta on a light aircraft. Breakfast at the lodge. Today you have another exciting day ahead of you as you head-off on a Mokoro Day Trip*. The tour starts early in the morning with a speedboat cruise to the Buffalo Fence where you commence an unforgettable journey through the channels of the Okavango. Born and raised in the Okavango Delta, our local guides will show you their home with passion and knowledge. These experienced guides take you on a journey deep in the water system. Enjoy the peace of the delta in a Mokoro, the traditional african onetree-canoe. At lunchtime stop for a picnic on one of the islands before you venture on a nature walk to sport wildlife and learn about the delta, its plants, animals and the tribes living here. Feel the peace and spirit of the Okavango while watching hippos and elephants swim. Return to Maun by sunset. Overnight stay in Maun.
Please note that the first part of the boat journey can be replaced by a 4×4 vehicle ride if there are any adverse weather conditions.
*The Mokoro day trip is not suitable for children due to safety reasons. If you are traveling with children, you will enjoy a rewarding day in the Moremi Game Reserve. These areas are a combination of open savannah, tree islands and lagoons offering excellent bird and wildlife viewing.
