Northern expedition: Lofoten & Tromsø

Your adventure begins as you arrive in Norway’s vibrant capital, Oslo. After landing, enjoy a smooth transfer* to the city center with your pre-booked Flytoget train tickets, sent to you in advance for an easy start to your journey.

Once you arrive, make your way to your hotel** at your own pace, leaving the rest of the day free for exploration. Stroll through the charming streets of Oslo, immerse yourself in the local culture, or relax and prepare for the exciting journey ahead. Overnight stay in Oslo.

For those seeking more, there’s an optional tour to explore the renowned Museums of Oslo*, offering a deeper dive into the city’s fascinating history. Breakfast at the hotel. Today, your adventure continues as you prepare for a domestic flight from Oslo to Evenes. Begin your day with a smooth transfer to Oslo Airport using your pre-purchased Flytoget train ticket, ensuring a hassle-free journey. Once you arrive in Evenes, you'll be greeted by a comfortable Flybus (coach) that will whisk you away to the charming city center of Harstad.

After your transfer, take the opportunity to check into your hotel and unwind. The rest of the day is yours to explore Harstad’s captivating streets, indulge in local cuisine, or simply relax before your next adventure. Overnight stay in Harstad.

Total transfer distance: Oslo to Oslo Airport, approximately 20 minutes by train (50 km). Evenes Airport to Harstad, approximately 1 hour by bus (45 km).

Breakfast at the hotel.  As you journey from Harstad to Svolvær, prepare for a breathtaking exploration of the Lofoten Islands! Set off along a scenic route, where stunning landscapes and coastal views will captivate your senses. Your adventure includes visits to the charming villages of Kabelvåg and Henningsvær, each brimming with picturesque beauty and local culture. Stroll through the quaint streets, savor fresh seafood, and immerse yourself in the unique atmosphere of these coastal gems.

Finally, arrive in Svolvær, the vibrant heart of the Lofoten archipelago. Take in the enchanting surroundings and embark on a fascinating guided walking tour. In the afternoon, you’ll have free time to relax or explore at your leisure. We also recommend joining our optional activities: a Northern Lights or Full Steam Cruise* and a sunset cruise to spot sea eagles.** Overnight stay in Svolvær.

Total transfer distance: approximately 3-4 hours by bus (220 km).

*Optional Northern Lights & Full Steam cruise: Learn about local fishing history and culture on this unforgettable evening cruise. Departing from Svolvær harbor, you’ll set off toward Full Steam, a former 200‑year‑old cod steaming factory now transformed into a museum, restaurant, and cultural venue near Henningsvær. Depending on the weather, an underwater drone may be deployed so you can explore the underwater world during the cruise. 

Guides will share insights about what they see and keep an eye out for the Northern Lights along the way.  After about an hour, you’ll arrive at Full Steam. Once you’ve explored the storied site, hop back aboard to sail closer to Henningsvær. Then it's out into the darkness of Vestfjorden for another chance to witness the magical Northern Lights (weather permitting).

**Optional sea eagle & sunset cruise: Prepare for an awe-inspiring 1.5-hour boat tour through the breathtaking landscapes of Lofoten, Norway, to see white-tailed eagles in their natural habitat. Departing from Svolvær, this guided tour takes you aboard a hybrid-electric catamaran for a comfortable and sustainable journey. As evening hues paint the skies, appreciate the tranquillity of the Norwegian coast and admire the island of Skrova in the distance. 

Breakfast at the hotel. Prepare to immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes of the central and western Lofoten Islands on a full-day tour. Visit the Lofotr Museum to learn about Viking history and culture. Along the way, stop at the charming Bøstad Museum, the picturesque villages of Leknes and Reine, and the famous Ramberg Beach*, celebrated for its breathtaking scenery. Each stop provides unique insights and photo opportunities for a memorable day in the heart of Lofoten. 

The rest of the day is free, and during the summer season, you can choose to join our optional activity: evening kayaking in Svolvær.** Overnight stay in Svolvær.

Total transfer distance: approximately 6 hours by bus (350 km). Total hours of the day: 10 hours approximately.

**Optional evening kayaking in Svolvær: Perfect for beginners and experienced kayakers alike, this evening kayak departs fromSvolvær and offers a unique perspective of Lofoten’s coastline. Paddle calm waters while marveling at dramatic mountains, soaking in the quiet, raw beauty of the surroundings—the perfect opportunity for photography. No prior experience is required.

Breakfast at the hotel. Today, participate in the rich culture of the Sami people with a visit to a traditional farm in Sortland. Learn about their customs, reindeer herding, and way of life. After your cultural experience, board a ferry* from Fiskebøl to Melbu, where stunning coastal views await.

Upon arrival in Harstad, take time to settle in and explore this charming town. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure, soaking in the beauty and culture of your surroundings! Overnight stay in Harstad.

Total transfer distance: approximately 4-5 hours by bus (200 km) and ferry.

*If the group consists of fewer than 10 passengers, the ferry will operate in reverse direction, from Melbu to Fiskebøl, coinciding with the Harstad–Svolvær travel day.

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning, embark on a scenic ferry ride* from Harstad to Tromsø, keeping in mind that this is a public transportation service, so schedules may vary or be subject to cancellation without notice. Once you arrive in Tromsø, join your tour leader for an engaging walking tour of this vibrant city, rich in history and culture.

After that, you’ll have some free time to explore at your own pace or, depending on the season, join some exciting optional activities, like the aurora dinner cruise**, or cod tasting experience.**** Please note that the cod tasting experience, cannot be combined with any of the other optional activities offered on this day. Overnight stay in Tromso.

Total transfer distance:  approximately 3 hours by ferry (300 km).

*If the Harstad–Tromsø ferry does not operate in the morning, departure will be later in the day. As a result, arrival in Tromsø may be in the evening, and the walking tour will therefore take place at night.

**Optional aurora dinner cruise: Aboard a quiet hybrid-electric ship, take in the otherworldly atmosphere of an Arctic night. Cruise through the icy waters surrounding Tromsø island, sailing past snow-covered mountains and iconic landmarks such as the Arctic Cathedral. 

Enjoy a locally sourced, seasonal three-course meal while the friendly crew shares personal stories and local knowledge about the waters and awe-inspiring landscapes. If you’re lucky, the Northern Lights may make an appearance.

***Optional cod tasting experience: Celebrate cod fishing’s rich maritime heritage with a visit to the Full Steam. Spread across multiple floors, the museum offers an immersive experience combining storytelling, tasting, and insight into Norwegian and Arctic culture. 

Begin with the Cod Fisheries Trilogy, a guided tasting and storytelling experience where you’ll sample cod roe, learn about its origins, and explore the history of cod liver oil.

Continue through exhibitions dedicated to Sea Sami culture and traditions, the Arctic environment, and stunning photography of the Northern Lights. If the Harstad–Tromsø ferry does not operate in the morning, the departure will take place later in the day. This may result in arrival in Tromsø at night, and therefore the walking tour will be conducted in the evening. The experience concludes with the Seafarer’s Exhibition, showcasing maritime history through historic vessels and authentic artifacts. During your visit, you’re also welcome to stop by the museum’s restaurant and bar.

Breakfast* at the hotel. Spend your last morning in Tromsø enjoying the sights and sounds of this charming Arctic city. Relax at a cozy café, do some last-minute shopping, or explore any remaining attractions—it's your day to enjoy.

When it's time to leave, a Flybussen transfer to the airport is included for a smooth journey home**. Take one last look at the stunning landscapes as you head to the airport, filled with memories of your incredible adventure! Arrive in Canada and end of your trip.

*Depending on the return flight schedule and the hotel breakfast service, you may not be able to enjoy the included breakfast on the last day.

**Please note: The last bus from Tromsø to the airport departs at 6:30 PM. If your flight is later and you’d prefer not to wait at the airport, you can arrange a taxi independently or pre-book one through us.
