Ayers Rock

One of the icons of Australia is this mountain rising from nothing, in the middle of the desert. In reality, it is less of a mountain and more of a single, huge, rock. What's more, Uluru is a sacred place for the Aboriginals, so climbing the rock is forbidden. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987.
