In the year 2000, a campaign was launched to choose the 7 Wonders of the Modern World, from a global list of 200 candidates. Over the course of the next seven years, 600 million votes from around the world created a shortlist of just 21 world wonders.
From this shortlist, seven winners were chosen: the Taj Mahal in India, Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Colosseum in Italy, Machu Picchu in Peru, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, Petra in Jordan and the Great Wall of China.
