1st Day: US - Night on board

Ready to discover the spectacular cities and landscapes of Portugal? Arrive at your departure airport, ready to catch a flight to Lisbon.* Night on board.

* If either your outbound or inbound flights depart in the early hours (before 4:00 a.m.) you must arrive at the airport the night before the indicated departure day.

2nd Day: Lisbon

Touch down in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, known for its dramatic coastline and pastel-colored buildings. Transfer to the hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure. Why not explore the oldest parts of the city to admire the ornate architecture or simply enjoy the views of the River Tagus from one of the many riverside cafes and bars. Overnight stay in Lisbon.

3rd Day: Lisbon

Breakfast at the hotel. Today, set off on a full day tour of Lisbon for an eye-opening overview of this incredible city. Begin with a fascinating walking tour of Alfama, one of the oldest areas in the city, perched upon the hillside with spectacular views across the sprawling cityscape. End your morning tour at the church of the Monastery of Jeronimos, home to the tomb of Vasco da Gama and the famous poet Camões. Stop for a moment to contemplate the incredible Belem Tower before heading to the Pasteis de Belem for a mouth-watering pastry tasting session. Be sure to try a delicious Portuguese Tart, perhaps the most famous pastry in the country. In the afternoon, explore the city center on a walking tour around the Praça do Comércio Square and Rossio Square before enjoying some free time to discover the city at your own pace. Overnight stay in Lisbon.

4th Day: Lisbon - Sintra - Lisbon

Breakfast at the hotel. Set off on an excursion to Sintra, an unforgettable town and UNESCO World Heritage Site, filled with 19th-century Romanticist architecture, fairytale castles and exquisite gardens. Here you'll visit the Quinta da Regaleira Gardens and Palace considered the most enigmatic of all the estates in Sintra. The palace is a fusion of ornate and colorful architectural styles but the main attraction is the extensive gardens, filled with symbolism and intriguing constructions. After the tour, enjoy free time in Sintra to explore at your own pace. In the afternoon head to Cape Roca, the most westerly point of the European continent. Here you can soak up the views of the Atlantic Ocean and explore the village of Cascais, once the chosen beach destination of the aristocracy. Return to Lisbon and enjoy the remainder of the day exploring the delights of this cosmopolitan city at your leisure. Overnight stay in Lisbon.

 

5th Day: Lisbon - Óbidos - Nazaré - Fatima

Breakfast at the hotel. Head to Obidos today, one of the best-known villages in Portugal thanks to its magical cobblestone streets and charming architecture, enclosed within medieval city walls. Next, visit Nazare, a surfers paradise, home to some of the largest waves in the world and the most popular beach destination on the Silver Coast. Finish the day in the historic and fascinating city of Fatima, one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Catholics. Sacred sights here include the Capelinha das Aparições, where the Virgin Mary is believed to have appeared to local children in 1917, the Basílica de Nossa Senhora do Rosário, with its golden angels, and the modern church of Igreja da Santíssima Trindade. Spend the evening at your leisure, discovering the sights and sounds of this beautiful city at your own pace. Overnight stay in Fatima.

6th Day: Fatima - Coimbra - Aveiro - Porto

Breakfast at the hotel. Bid farewell to Fatima today as you set off for Coimbra, once the capital of Portugal and today a student city, home to the oldest university in the country. Explore the historic center and see the Romanesque Coimbra Cathedral. We recommend, an optional tour of the University of Coimbra Library* said to be one of the most beautiful in the world. In the afternoon, head for the Bussaco Forest to explore the ancient woodland, a natural haven used by Franciscan monks for solitude and meditation. Make time for some unforgettable photo opportunities before proceeding to Aveiro to enjoy free time admiring the canals and Art Nuevo buildings of this unique city. As the day draws to a close, travel to Porto, in northern Portugal on the banks of the Douro River. With its stunning Old Town, Porto is one of the highlights of any trip to Portugal. Spend the evening at your leisure, exploring the city's atmospheric streets. Overnight stay in Porto.

* Optional University of Coimbra Library Excursion: Visit the captivating University of Coimbra Library, a historic center for learning with a spectacular interior, home to many rare and important books and manuscripts. 

7th Day: Porto

Breakfast at the hotel. Begin the day with a panoramic tour of Porto to see the main attractions of the city such as the exterior of Clérigos Tower, Aliados Avenue and the impressive Sao Bento train station. Afterwards, visit Bolsa Palace, a stunning 19th-century neoclassical Stock Exchange and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue to the Church of Saint Francis, decorated with ornate golden gild work, typical of the Portuguese Baroque era. In the afternoon, soak up the delights of Porto at your own pace, admiring the famous tiled facades or sampling the authentic local port in a cosy cafe. Alternatively, we recommend an unforgettable boat tour on the River Douro.* Overnight stay in Porto.

Optional River Douro Boat Tour: In the afternoon, set off on an unforgettable boat tour on the Douro River to enjoy spectacular views of the city. After cruising on the river, visit a local port wine cellar and enjoy a tasting session of this typical Portuguese drink. 

8th Day: Porto - Lisbon

Breakfast at the hotel. Leave Porto this morning, headed for Tomar to visit the famous Convent of Christ complex, once a stronghold of the Templars in the 12th-century. Uncover the history of the Templars in Portugal, including the beautiful medieval chapel and the ornate cloister, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture. Explore this fascinating UNESCO World Heritage site before enjoying some free time in the city center. In the afternoon, return to the capital of Lisbon and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure to soak up the ambience of this lively city or to do some last-minute shopping. Overnight stay in Lisbon.

9th Day: Lisbon - Madrid

Breakfast at the hotel*. Leave Portugal behind today, as you head for Spain! At the indicated time, transfer to the airport for your flight to Madrid. Arrive in Madrid, the enigmatic capital city of Spain, known for its fast-paced atmosphere, classical architecture and beautiful plazas and parks. Self transfer to the hotel and spend the rest of the day exploring at your own pace. Overnight stay in Madrid.

10th Day: Madrid

Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy a day at your leisure to go shopping or sightseeing in Madrid. Towards the end of the day, transfers are provided to the magical Egyptian Debod Temple, Plaza de España and Gran Via, for those who want to discover the incredible cultural treasures of the city. Overnight stay in Madrid.

11th Day: Madrid

Breakfast at the hotel. The morning starts with a comprehensive tour through the centre of Madrid including Paseo del Prado, Cibeles, Neptuno, the Gate of Alcalá, Plaza de Colón and Plaza Mayor. Visit Retiro Park, an oasis in the city centre, where you will see the lake and the Glass Palace. Continue to visit Las Ventas Bullring. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure. At sunset, you will have available a transfer to Plaza de Oriente, opposite the Royal Palace, an elegant and bustling area with many restaurants. Overnight stay in Madrid.

12th Day: Madrid - Puerto Lápice - Granada

Breakfast at the hotel. Today, travel to the eternal city of Granada, the last stronghold of the Moorish Kingdom, where their influence endured up until 1492. On the way to this stunning city, we will stop in Puerto Lápice, a village evoking the figure of Don Quixote. Arrive in Granada and enjoy your included lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a visit to the world-famous Alhambra complex and Generalife Gardens. Admire the intricate Moorish architecture of this former palace and fortress and learn about its history. In the evening you will visit the Albaicín district of Granada, a World Heritage site along with the Alhambra, where you can enjoy dinner in the narrow winding streets of this captivating Medieval Moorish quarter. Overnight stay in Granada.

13th Day: Granada - Malaga - Marbella - Ronda - Seville

Breakfast at the hotel. Today, continue your journey south setting off to the much-loved Costa del Sol, one of the countries most popular holiday destinations. Arrive in Malaga and explore the historic centre, with its cathedral and the Picasso Museum. Continue the day along the coastal motorway with beautiful views of the Mediterranean. Stopping in Puerto Banús, in Marbella, a pretty resort known as a playground for Europe’s rich and famous people. In the afternoon you will continue through the hills until you arrive in the mountain-top town of Ronda, known for its Celtic origins and marvellous views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Continue to Seville. Arrive at the hotel and overnight stay in Seville.

14th Day: Seville

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, a local expert guides you through a scenic visit of Seville featuring the Cathedral and its famous Giralda bell tower, the banks of the Guadalquivir River, popular neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana and the beautiful Plaza de España. After the tour, start a boat trip along the river Guadalquivir, enjoying the panoramic views from the boat. In the afternoon, visit the historic city centre area and enjoy Seville's fine cuisine. Overnight stay in Seville.

15th Day: Seville - Zaragoza - Monastery of Montserrat - Barcelona

Breakfast at the hotel. Leave Sevilla early in the morning and self transfer to the train station to take a high-speed train to Zaragoza. Arrive in Zaragoza and enjoy some free time to visit the impressive Pilar Basilica and enjoy the city centre. You will then continue to the Monastery of Poblet, surrounded by its walls in a beautiful site that is one of the best-preserved medieval monasteries in the world. Then proceed to the Monastery of Montserrat where you will go up the mountain on a rack train to see its fantastic scenery. Following this you will continue to Barcelona, arriving in the late afternoon. Arrival and overnight stay in Barcelona.

Note: In the winter months, from November to March, due to the shorter days, you will not visit the Monastery of Poblet in order to reach Montserrat in the daylight.

16th Day: Barcelona

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will explore Barcelona, an impressive city right on the Mediterranean Sea. Starting with an informative city tour with a local expert. You will visit the city’s historic central area with its Gothic neighbourhood, dating back to the Middle Ages; and the area where the Olympic Games took place. You will get the chance to see La Sagrada Familia Basilica, the masterpiece designed by the architect Gaudí. Following this, visit ‘Poble Espanyol’ (meaning ‘Spanish Village’). This open-air architectural museum is situated in one of the most emblematic areas of Barcelona. Enjoy Spanish craftsmanship and discover the architectural styles, traditions and folklore of the different communities in Spain. Take some free time to explore the city on your own. In the evening we provide transfers to Las Ramblas and Plaza Catalunya area for dinner, where you can select from a great variety of restaurants. Overnight stay in Barcelona.

17th Day: Barcelona - Marrakech

Breakfast at the hotel*. Your journey continues today, as you head for the North African nation of Morocco. At the indicated time, self transfer to the airport for a flight to Marrakech. Arrive in Marrakech and transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day free to start discovering this wonderful city. A walk through the Medina allows you to enjoy the best of its architecture and the unique, colourful atmosphere of the city. Dinner and overnight stay in Marrakech. **

18th Day: Marrakech

Breakfast at the hotel. Today, embark on an eye-opening tour of the wonders of Marrakech, starting with the Minaret of the Koutoubia, from the 13th century and the spiritual centre of Marrakech. Visit the Palace of the Bahia, the residence of the old vizir, and known for its intricate tile and wood carving decoration. Discover how spices and argan oil are made in a local school before you head to the Jamaa el Fna square home to the bustling souks, so typical of the city and full of fruit vendors and stalls selling wicker baskets, traditional sweets and authentic souvenirs. At nightfall, the square looks magical as it is lit was thousands of lights. Dinner and overnight stay in Marrakech.

19th Day: Marrakech - Casablanca - Rabat - Meknes - Fez

Breakfast at the hotel. Set off by road towards iconic Casablanca, and enjoy a city tour where you can marvel at the Art Deco buildings and the Dar El Baida White House before visiting the Mohammed V Square and the upmarket Anfa district. Leave in the direction of Rabat to visit the Kasbah of the Oudayas, a citadel that is located to the north of the city. This fortress retains its Arab character of narrow alleys with white and blue façades that lead to viewpoints from which there are incredible views of the Atlantic coast. After the visit, travel to Meknes to see the exterior of the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, one of the few mosques in the country that can be accessed by non-Muslims. Inside, notice the delicate decoration and beautiful tiles. Finally, head to the city of Fez. Arrive and transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Fez.

20th Day: Fez

Breakfast at the riad. Enjoy a full day tour of Fez, considered the centre of Islam in Morocco. It is the intellectual and religious capital of the country. Begin with a panoramic view from one of the hills surrounding the city, then visit the bronze doors of the Royal Palace and walk into the medina to visit Medersas, the centre of Koranic studies. Explore the workshops in the artisan neighbourhoods. Walk along the broad Boulevard of Mohamed V and stroll through the endless streets of the world's largest medina. After the visit, return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Fez.

21st Day: Fez - Midelt - Erfoud

Breakfast at the hotel. Depart through the gentle mountains of the Middle Atlas, until you reach the city of Midelt, known for its apple cultivation. Continue along a beautiful route and view Berber life first hand. Arrive in Erfoud, at the edge of the great Sahara desert. Tonight, you have the opportunity to spend the night in a Berber Jaima Camp of your choice in the dunes of the Sahara.* Dinner and overnight stay in Erfoud.

* Optional Night in the Sahara Dunes. Take a 4x4 all-terrain vehicle to reach the high dunes of Merzouga. Admire the magical sunset and spend the night in a typical Berber Jaima Camp, with a traditional dinner included. You will stay in either Sahara Stars Camp, Oasis Luxury Camp or Royal Oasis Camp, depending on the availability on the day.

Please note: If you would like to book this experience you must reserve it in advance, up to 30 days before departure, as places are limited. You will not be able to sleep in the hotel if you choose this optional night at the camp.

22nd Day: Erfoud - Gorges of Todgha - Dades Valley - Kalaat M'Gouna - Ouarzazate

Breakfast at the hotel. Today, visit the captivating Gorges of Todgha, and the Dades Valley, to experience the natural wonders of this unique landscape. Pass by ancient fortresses and lush oases before arriving at the small Berber town of Kalaat M'Gouna, famous for its roses and perfumes. Continue to Ouarzazate, a desert city and enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.

23rd Day: Ouarzazate - Ait Benhaddou - Marrakech

Breakfast at the hotel. Embark on a visit to the Kasbah of Taourirt, the former residence of the Pacha Glaoui called the Lord of the Atlas Region. Continue to the majestic Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This Kasbah, dotted with crenellated towers, is considered one of the most beautiful in the country and has often been a filming location for movies. In the afternoon, depart across the High Atlas mountains en route to Marrakech. Arrive in Marrakech, get settled at the riad, and spend the rest of the day exploring at your leisure. Dinner and overnight stay in Marrakech.

24th Day: Marrakech - US

Breakfast at the riad*. It's time to bring your unforgettable journey to an end. At the indicated time, transfer to Marrakech or Casablanca airport to board a flight back to the US.** Arrive in the US and end your trip.
