Holidays to Scotland

Scotland is the northernmost of the four countries of the United Kingdom. Along with England, Wales and Northern Ireland, it is part of Great Britain and it covers one third of the total area. It is also made up of more than 790 islands. It is bordered to the north and west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the east by the North Sea, to the south by England and to the southwest by the North Channel and the Irish Sea. The capital is Edinburgh, although Glasgow is the largest city and 40% of the total Scottish population is concentrated in its metropolitan area.

Scotland takes its name from "Scotus", a Latin term that means "Irish" (the plural form is "Scoti", "Irish"). This refers to the Gaelic settlers of Ireland, a country that the Romans initially called "Scotia". The Irish that colonized the current Scotland were known as "Scoti". The Romans in the early Middle Ages used the name "Caledonia" to refer to present-day Scotland. It is a land full of legends and landscapes of impressive contrasts. It is famous for its men dressed in kilts, bagpipes, ancient castles, wild beaches, deep lochs, whisky distilleries, haggis, lush forests, bustling cities and incredibly green meadows.
