1st Day: Lima

Touch down in Lima, the capital of Peru, situated on the scenic Pacific Coast. Transfer to the hotel, get settled* and spend the rest of the day exploring the city's colonial streets and magical plazas at your leisure. Why not stop in a local bar for a delicious pisco sour or check out the pre-Columbian art housed within the excellent Museo Larco? Overnight stay in Lima.

*If your flight arrives in Lima in the early hours of the morning, and you wish to have your room available before 2:00 p.m, you can book early check-in in the next step of the booking process.

2nd Day: Lima - Cuzco - Sacred Valley

Breakfast at the hotel. Leave Lima behind today as you transfer to the airport to catch a short flight to Cuzco. Arrive in Cuzco, the former Inca capital, and transfer to the spectacular Sacred Valley. As you journey through incredible mountain landscapes, stop along the route at Awanakancha (no guide, only driver) and savour the opportunity to explore this living museum, where ancient customs and traditions have been preserved across the centuries. Watch local communities create beautiful handmade textiles and soak up the incredible views, unchanged by time. Afterwards, continue to your hotel and spend the remainder of the day at your leisure, admiring the immaculate scenery of the Sacred Valley! Alternatively, why not enjoy an optional Andean Coffee Roasting and Distillery experience?* Overnight stay in Sacred Valley.


*Optional Coffee & Distillery Experience: Transfer from your hotel to Ollantaytambo Lodge to enjoy a 'Coffee Roaster Experience' to uncover the secrets to creating the perfect brew and try your hand at preparing your own bag of roasted coffee. 3rd Day: Sacred Valley

Breakfast at the hotel. Take the day at your leisure to explore the sights of the Sacred Valley at your own pace. We recommend an optional excursion to get to know some of the most unmissable highlights of this fascinating region!* Overnight stay in the Sacred Valley.  

Optional Essence of the Sacred Valley Excursion: Visit Chinchero and the PARWA Centre, to appreciate the colourful traditional textiles. Next, visit the church of Chinchero before heading to the Racchi panoramic viewpoint for a fantastic view across the valley. Explore Ollantaytambo and its Inca fortress. Lunch and 'Boleto Turisitco' included granting entrance to the Sacred Valley and surrounding sights.

4th Day: Sacred Valley

Breakfast at the hotel. Another day to discover Urubamba and the surrounding Sacred Valley at your leisure. Why not head out on a nature hike or do a little shopping at the local market? We recommend an optional excursion to the archaeological sites of Maras and Moray to learn more about the Incan heritage of this region.* Overnight stay in the Sacred Valley.

* Optional Half-Day Moray & Maras Excursion: Set off from your hotel to the incredible Inca-era site of Moray, known for its impressive circular terraces. Enjoy a guided tour and learn all about these fascinating terraces. Afterwards, continue to the ingenious Mara salt mines, used since ancient times to cultivate the finest salt in the world! Admire the mosaic of terraces and take in the unparalleled views before returning to the hotel.

5th Day: Cuzco - Aguas Calientes

Breakfast at the hotel. An exciting visit to Machu Picchu awaits you this morning as you set off for the train station to board the Expedition Train to Aguas Calientes, admiring the landscape along the way! Alternatively, if you'd like to trek the famous Inca Trail, why not opt for our optional Inca Trail experience, for a truly memorable journey to Machu Picchu!* Arrive and transfer to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Machu Picchu*, one of the New Seven Wonders of the Modern World and a truly captivating sight, nestled high in the Peruvian Andes. Spend some time discovering the ruins and complex terraces and enjoy a tour of the different sections of the site. Finally, return to Aguas Calientes and get settled at your hotel. The evening is free to explore this hill town at your leisure and perhaps dine in one of the excellent local restaurants. Overnight stay in Aguas Calientes.

Please note: The baggage policy on board the Expedition train is 1 bag or backpack per person weighing a maximum of max. 5kg / 11lb.

* Backpacks or bags taken into Machu Picchu must not exceed 40x35x20cms or have a capacity larger than 20Lts and must not contain single-use plastic bottles or bags. Backpacks or bags that exceed the indicated measurements can be left in storage for approx. $2 per bag.

* Optional 2 Day Inca Trail & Expedition Train Experience (Day 1): From the Sacred Valley, board the Expedition Train to Aguas Calientes, disembarking at kilometre 104 to begin your adventure on the famous Inca Trail! The first stop of the day is Chachabamba archaeological complex and a nearby waterfall, stopping for a picnic lunch along the way. In the afternoon, continue along the final stage of the Inca Trail to Puerto del Sol, for breathtaking views of the Machu Picchu citadel from above. From here, transfer by bus to the town of Aguas Calientes and enjoy a relaxing evening, perhaps visiting the therapeutic hot springs. 

Optional Day 1 Inca Trail total walking time: 7-8 hours (15 km). Maximum altitude: 2,650 metres above sea level. 

Please note: If you choose the optional Inca Trail & Expedition Train experience it will replace the standard itinerary for this day and the following day.

6th Day: Aguas Calientes - Cuzco

Breakfast at the hotel. Leave Aguas Calientes behind, as you head to the train station to catch a return train back to Cuzco, the old Inca-era capital famed for its beautiful colonial architecture and thriving arts scene. Arrive, transfer to the hotel and enjoy your first evening in Cuzco at your leisure, exploring its lively restaurants and bars. Overnight stay in Cuzco.

Optional 2 Day Inca Trail & Expedition Train Experience (Day 2): Today you'll finally have the chance to explore the incredible Inca site of Machu Picchu! Take a short bus ride to the site where you'll enjoy a 2-hour guided tour with a specialised guide who will reveal all the secrets of this wonder of the world! Enjoy some free time to explore the site and take photos at your leisure before returning to Aguas Calientes to catch the train back to Cuzco. Arrive in Cuzco and rejoin the standard itinerary as stated above.

7th Day: Cuzco

Breakfast at the hotel. Today, set off on a fascinating half-day tour of Cuzco. Begin in the iconic Plaza de Armas, and visit the Cathedral. From here, walk to the Koricancha Temple, an impressive ancient Inca palace, in honour of the Sun God. Today, a Dominican church stands on the site. Finally, visit the lively San Blas neighbourhood, known for its artists, shops and artisan workshops. Spend the remainder of the day at your leisure, soaking up the atmosphere of the city and sampling the local cuisine. We recommend an optional photography workshop to see this incredible city in new ways!* Overnight stay in Cuzco.

*Optional Cuzco Photography Workshop: Move away from the tourist route to discover the real Cuzco with this unique photography workshop. Using either your mobile device or camera, follow a professional photographer around the city to learn how to capture the essence of Cuzco in unique and exciting ways! 8th Day: Cuzco

Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy a day at your leisure to explore the sights of Cuzco. Why not explore the trendy neighborhood of San Blas, known for its artisan stores and beautiful San Blas Plaza, or pay a visit to the historic Qoricancha Temple? Alternatively, why not opt for a full-day excursion to the incredible Palccoyo Mountain, known for its rainbow-colored appearance!* Overnight stay in Cuzco. 

* Optional Full-Day Excursion to Palccoyo Mountain: After a 3-hour journey from Cuzco, arrive at the town of Combapata in the South Valley. From here, begin a 1-hour guided hike to Palccoyo. The Mountain of Seven Colors, Palccoyo is one of the most astounding natural wonders in Peru. Arrive and explore the rainbow-colored mountain at your leisure, taking photos and soaking up the views. Afterwards, continue walking towards the Stone Forest and the Ausangate viewpoint. Return along the same route and head back to Cuzco, stopping to enjoy a packed lunch box along the way.

9th Day: Cuzco - Lima

Breakfast at the hotel. Bid farewell to Cuzco as you transfer to the airport to catch a flight back to Lima. Arrive and head to the transfer counter to take a shuttle to the hotel. The evening is free to relax and enjoy your final moments in Peru. Overnight stay in Lima.

10th Day: Lima - Noche a bordo

Breakfast at the hotel. Sadly, it's time to bring your incredible adventure through Peru to an end. At the indicated time, transfer to the airport for a flight back to the US.**

* If you choose an early morning return flight, you'll enjoy your stay at the hotel until the indicated time of transfer to the airport. The airport transfer will take place the night before the date indicated on the ticket for return flights that depart between 00:00 and 04:00.

11th Day: US

Arrive in the US and end your trip.
