La République des Maldives est un pays musulman, la plupart des fêtes suivent donc le calendrier lunaire islamique, de sorte que les dates changent d’une année à l’autre.

 

Anniversaire du Prophète Mahomet

Il a lieu le douzième jour du troisième mois du calendrier islamique. Il commémore la naissance de Mahomet. La tradition est d'inviter la famille et les amis à manger de délicieux plats préparés pour l'occasion.

 

Journée de la République

Commémore l’abolition de la monarchie et l’instauration de la République le 11 novembre 1968. Célébration animée et colorée.

 

Journée du pêcheur

Le pays reconnaît le travail de ses pêcheurs et leur offre une fête.

 

Journée Nationale

Elle a lieu le premier jour du troisième mois du calendrier lunaire. Elle commémore la victoire de Malé de Thakurufaanu sur les Portugais en 1573, mettant fin à leur invasion coloniale, après la mise en place de leur propre gouvernement après avoir tué le sultan des Maldives. Il y a des défilés et des marches dans les rues de la capitale.

 

Le Ramadan

Il a lieu au neuvième mois du calendrier musulman. Il commence à l’apparition de la nouvelle lune, et se termine à l’apparition de la suivante, de sorte que la période exacte varie d’une année à l’autre. C'est l'une des fêtes les plus importantes des Maldives.

 

Fête Kuda Eid

Elle a lieu le premier jour du dixième mois du calendrier islamique. Ce sont 3 jours de fête. Cette fête religieuse marque la fin du Ramadan, en observant la nouvelle lune signalée par un coup de canon tiré à Malé et retransmis à la télévision. On va à la mosquée tôt pour faire des prières, faire des offrandes, donner l'aumône aux nécessiteux et rechercher les bénédictions divines. Il y a des danses traditionnelles sur les îles rurales.

The country recognises the work of its fishermen and honours them with a celebration. This annual celebration takes place on December 10th and a number of different events take place to celebrate and give thanks for the great contribution from everyday fishermen to the economy of the Maldives.

Kuda Eid Festival

Celebrated on the first day of the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. It's a 3-day celebration. This religious festival marks the end of Ramadan with the sighting of the new moon marked by a cannon shot in Malé broadcast on television. The mosque is visited early to offer prayers, make offerings and give alms to the poor, and seek divine blessings. Traditional dances are performed in the rural islands.

National Day

National Day

Celebrated on the first day of the third month of the lunar calendar. It commemorates Thakurufaanu’s victory in Malé over the Portuguese in 1573, ending their colonial invasion as they had established their own government after killing the Sultan of the Maldives. There are parades and marches through the street of the capital.

Celebrated on the twelfth day of the third month in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the birth of Muhammad. It is traditional to invite family and friends to eat delicious dishes prepared for the occasion.
