Australia has a large number of events and festivities for all audiences. These include sports competitions, in which animals such as camels or horses compete, music festivals and art-related festivals which have proved very popular.

Thanks to the presence of renowned artists some of these festivals are known internationally. As for religious events, the country also celebrates Christmas. In these dates the most popular festival is the New Year, being one of the first countries in the world to celebrate it.

Alice Springs Camel Cup

Although the camels are not originally from Australia, when they were brought from Africa they became a great tourist attraction. Hence, this race, in which camels compete, is one of the best known and is held in Alice Springs, in the Northern Territory of the country. The competition has been held since 1970 and is one of the most popular for its festive and family atmosphere. 聽

Harvest Festival

Taking advantage of the harvest time, in particular, the wine harvests, in the hills of Adelaide this festival is organized and attendees have the possibility of observing the whole winemaking process, from picking to production. Tastings are also organized.

Melbourne Cup

This popular horse race organized in Flemington is the most important in Australia. Although the first one was held in 1840, the first actual Melbourne Cup did not take place until 1861. Since then, thousands of visitors descend on the race track to enjoy the show. 聽

Montsalvat Art Festival

It is celebrated in Eltham, Victoria, and is one of the most recognized art festivals in the country. Its main characteristic is that it allows the public to interact with many of its artists, so in addition to exhibitions there are also workshops, courses, talks and photography contests or paintings. 聽

Moomba Festival

Held in the city of Melbourne, this festival founded in 1955 is one of the oldest in the country. There are parades, musical performances, costume contests, exhibitions and performances. Its duration is usually four days and takes place on the second Monday of the month of March since it coincides with Worker's Day in Australia, which is a national holiday. 聽

New Year's Eve

Sydney Running Festival

This great marathon organized in the centre of Sydney is one of the most popular in the country. It is open to all audiences and gives runners the opportunity to compete in either the full marathon, the half marathon, the 9km bridge route, or a family route of 4 kilometres. It usually involves more than 25,000 athletes.
